Normally I order a pizza for dinner for the opening game of the World Series. Not this year. It wasn’t until Tuesday night that I enjoyed a pizza from Evergreen Pizza Co. (see logo) as the series moved from Milwaukee to Tampa Bay for game 3. But after last night’s win in 12 innings by the Rays, this World Series might deserve a second pizza night for game 6. That’s assuming Tampa Bay survives another elimination game.
My World Series pizza tradition started years ago. Later it slowly expanded to add the various rounds of the playoffs. In the biggest pizza years, I ordered pizza for the opening night of both the Division Series and the League Championship Series plus the World Series. Three pizzas total. But no problem, Bremerton is up to the challenges of supplying the pizza.
If you want to spread your pizza dollars around, local restaurant choices include Westside, Tony’s, Spiro’s, Little Caesars, and Chico Pizza & Chicken. In previous years, I have tried all of them.
A quick comment on Evergreen Pizza Co., this year’s pizza supplier: great pizza, several interesting in-house creations, and a friendly staff. However, there’s only one size. If you have a hungry crew at your World Series party, consider ordering two.
The perfect mix for playoff baseball is pizza and TV (not radio). That’s why this year’s postseason pizzas were delayed. Having cut the cord with Xfinity, I was following the games on radio only and had no way to watch the playoffs until the World Series started. It’s on Fox and is available over the air locally due to being transmitted from their nearby tower on Gold Mountain. I attached a small indoor antenna to my old Samsung TV and was able to easily tune in the high-def broadcast.
Gotta go. I want to post this before game 5 starts. Will the Rays be able to send the World Series back to Milwaukee? If so, that should rate another World Series pizza night.
Update: Congratulations to the Milwaukee Brewers, who won game 5 last night and are the World Champions. With no game 6 needed this year, my next chance for a World Series pizza is in 2027, and that’s only if the players and owners negotiate an agreement to play next year.
