There’s No Money in It

Wanna buy a former bank?

The former Kitsap Bank branch on Marine Drive (see photo) was listed as a commercial property for sale on the Reid Realty web site this week. At $350K it might be a good buy. However, there’s no money in it—bank money that is. Customer deposits and accounts, including my safe deposit box, were moved to the downtown branch when the Marine Drive branch closed last June.

Here’s how Reid’s listing describes it:

Former branch of a local Bank – Well maintained inside and out – Current zoning allows many office, medical and retail uses – Two bathrooms (one on each level) plus a small kitchen on the mezzanine level – 2,160 SF on the main floor and 720 SF on the mezzanine level.

As I said in a post last year, it would make a great place to live if you could put up with the noise from traffic and the fishbowl windows in the front. Just think, you would be within easy walking distance of the many fast-food places on Kitsap Way and about a nine-iron shot from the Ace Hardware that’s currently under construction just east of Arnold’s Furniture. Plus R&H Market could take care of your beverage needs.

We’ll probably end up with a dental or real estate office instead. I just hope the new owner keeps the same landscaping firm. They do a great job.

  1. We had a former bank branch that was turned into a Video store for awhile. No chance of that I guess. It was kind of cool though – they used the vault for X-rated videos. Now it’s a credit union.
