Creative Looks, a hair salon, opened in Chico this week. I know this because Cindy, the lady who cuts my hair, works there and today was haircut day. Chico is a small community on Chico Bay in Dyes Inlet northwest of Bremerton.
The last time I blogged about Cindy, I wrote about how she was commuting to work in her collector car. Her old Chevy wasn’t there today (something about misplaced keys), but it was good to see her and to catch up on the details of her latest professional move. By my count, this is the fifth move since I have known her.
In the past she’s owned her own salon (Lyon’s Pride) and, most recently, worked at Hairmasters on Bucklin Hill Road in Silverdale. I’m glad she moved out of Silverdale ahead of the Clear Creek Bridge replacement project. When it starts this summer, I plan to avoid that area due to traffic gridlock.
Creative Looks is a small salon with two stylists—Cindy and the owner, Jean Ann Hamilton. They are located at 4621 Meredith Street in Chico in a metal building (see photo) that’s behind and just up the hill from Simply Sublime Espresso. The espresso shop is in the ramshackle wooden building at 5255 Chico Way about a half-mile north of the Chico Way exit from State Route 3.
Creative Looks specializes in cuts, coloring, and body waxing. I just go there for the cuts. They are open 7 days a week.
Most recently the metal building housed a dog groomer and a collectibles shop.
Jean’s husband is going to use the former collectibles shop as a garage to flip cars.
Considering the time Creative Looks had to do the work, the transformation of the dog groomer’s space is amazing. They installed new cabinets, shelves, washbasins, flooring, and a drop ceiling with recessed lighting. Plus there’s new paint and furniture. The place looks great. The waxing area, if you need to know, is in a separate room in the back.
When I first moved to Kitsap County in 1975, I lived in a small waterfront house on Chico Bay. It was on Chico Beach Drive near the boat launch just a few hundred yards from where Creative Looks is now. I still visit Chico a lot. It’s a great place for bike riding and for viewing the fall salmon run in Chico Creek.
Now I have an additional reason to go there.
